There are many respectful and honorable ways in which one can receive a praiseworthy report from others, even from strangers. However, we are representatives of our Lord and Savior; Jesus Christ, and our light that shines must shine before men, women and children that points to Him. He stepped down from Heaven out of all his glorious light into a world of darkness, that we may be able to shine in his image: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid ( Matt.5:14). Therefore, we must not take on the light of praise when given to us from even strangers and forget where the light came from. Scripture tells us; Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life (John 8:12).
Let us be forever mindful that the preparation has already been made to be the light that shines before men, however, our conversation of life must be that of the light pointing to Jesus Christ and not stepping into the global light ourselves. If our light points to self and not to Christ, then an evidence of pride, self-elevation, and self-love has crept in and many will cry for the self-elevated one rather than for Jesus Christ. As Christians and believers of the gospel of Jesus Christ, let us not give ourselves a standing ovation with an applaud that never ends.
