This verse shows excellence in clarity, not to be just another gift, but also abide faith, hope, love, these three, but the greatest of these is love. Above all these, the true grace is more excellent than any spiritual gifts that could ever be given. Here faith, hope and love, are the three principle graces of God's love, and of these three, love is the principal gift of which the other two depend upon.
For faith, we read; Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1).
For hope, we read; And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure (1 John 3:3).
And, for love, we read a very familiar verse; For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
Love is connected to the divine nature of God from whence He rests and have his delight in all his people. I say this for the simple reason that, God is love. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love ( 1 John 4:8). There, where God is, you will find perfect love at its greatest depth. No other love can be compared to His love, and no other can take the place of His perfect love, no matter how authentic it may appear.
