David has a heart of repentance and here acknowledges that he is deserving of God's displeasure in him, therefore, he pleads with God that no matter how He corrects him, that God would not cast him away from his presence. Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation (v9). For without God whither shall he go for help, who could he call on; but God, what could he do; without God, and who could he seek counsel from? No matter what God would do to him, David's concern was do not cast me away from thy presence. The implication from David is that God is all that he had wanted and all that he will ever need. He expresses his complete dependency upon God and Him alone.
His dependency expressed greater than anything else was; he could depend on God helping him when all others would fail and leave him disappointed. He affirms even greater than a mother and father whom we deeply consider to be the dearest and nearest friends, even best of friends, of whom he will ever know in the whole universe, from whom he may expect the most understanding and relief from, do not come through for him, his high expectation is that he could depend on God at the failing of all others. Considering the knowledge that both mother and father have expired from this world, or, may live a far distance away and cannot be reached, or, disabled and cannot help due to health issues in his time of need, his trust is God will come to his recue and help at the cry of his voice.
Whether we have experienced a mother or father reacting with unkindness, or, not mindful of a situation in life; or, will not give assistance when support is needed; or, as an orphan who was left motherless and fatherless; or, suddenly after birth is left on a strangers front porch; this one thing David knew, then the Lord God Almighty, will take me up: as a poor lost wandering sheep is taken up into his arms and saved from perishing, destruction, or, from the snares of the enemies that maybe waiting by the wayside with a trap; then the Lord God Almighty, will take me up! He will never leave nor forsake those who trust in him with their whole heart (Heb. 13:5), his timing is perfect for every need, in that, when everyone else fails he is always there and on time. If ever a circumstance happens in your life, just know that through Jesus Christ, God is a better Mother and Father than our earthly parents could ever be.
