John 14:27 KJV

The peace that Jesus speaks of is the peace in which the angels paid tribute to men at his birth:  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, saying, Glory to
God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men, (Luke 2:13-14).   It is this peace that He purchased on the Cross and preached while on earth, this peace which was put for reconciliation and love, and peace with God, peace with one another, and it was this peace of which he left with his frightened disciples upon his leaving the earth to those who had left all for Him.

Jesus possessed no houses and land, silver and gold, stocks and bonds, but, he left them something far greater:  Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you.  Upon his getting ready to leave this world Jesus committed his soul to his Father God, his body to Joseph of Arimathea to be decently buried, his clothes to the soldiers, his mother to the care of John, and to his disciples, his peace.

It was entrusted to you, his disciples and followers, those who would be exposed to trouble after he had gone away, to all the Christians presently at that time, and for all the ages to come.  It's not given as the world giveth, that is, as a compliment, or everybody is doing it this way, no, or even as a mere formality; but, rather, as a real blessing.  This is the peace that the smiles of the world cannot give and the frowns of the world cannot take it away.  This peace given from Jesus upon his departure from earth is the real blessing that even when everything in life seems to be in devastation and out of control, his peace will calm all while in the midst of any storm.
